Summary

TAV. 00

The NTC 2008 (Ministerial Decree of 14 January 2008) were, for a decade, Italy's Technical Standards for Construction. They consolidated the semi-probabilistic limit-state method and a site-hazard-based seismic action (no longer zone-based), superseding the previous framework. Published in Official Gazette No. 29 of 4 February 2008, they entered into force in 2008 and became fully mandatory from 1 July 2009 at the end of the transitional period. They were replaced by the NTC 2018 (Decree of 17 January 2018), in force since 22 March 2018. For buildings designed or built during their validity they remain the reference for reconstructing the technical-regulatory status of the time.

Scope of application

TAV. 01

Design, execution and testing of new and existing civil and industrial constructions on national territory, during the 2008–2018 period of validity.

Key points

TAV. K
  • Semi-probabilistic limit-state method (ULS/SLS) with partial factors on actions and resistances.
  • Seismic action defined by single-site hazard (national grid), no longer by seismic zones.
  • Replaced by the NTC 2018 (Decree 17/01/2018), in force since 22 March 2018.
